How to avoid costly house fire damage

In the winter months we crank up our heat and close ourselves in in hopes of staying warm. But sometimes due to negligence and home issues fires can and will happen. Here are a few tips to help protect yourself and your home this season.
First make sure all electrical wires are not exposed frayed or deteriorated. this cause cause a fire and cost hundreds of thousands to repair. Second keep all portable heaters away from electrical wires and cloth that is flammable. They can melt cords and start certain flammable fabrics on fire. Also check ducts and vents for obstructions. Always keep your ducts and furnace maintained to avoid fires and or puff backs. Puff backs are caused by oil furnace malfunctions and should be checked regularly.
