Fire Extinguisher Use for your Business

It's very important to regularly check your fire extinguisher gauge to evaluate it's lifetime

It’s important to have a fire extinguisher available in your place of business. It is very possible that a fire extinguisher will put out a small fire and save your business thousands of dollars in damages. It is important to educate your employees on the use of a fire extinguisher and the hazards that may come from fighting a small fire. Be sure to provide this education annually and when the employee is first hired.

In the event of a small fire, before using the fire extinguisher pull the fire alarm and call the fire department.

To operate the fire extinguisher,

1. Pull the pin
2. Aim low by pointing the extinguisher at the base of the fire
3. Squeeze the handle to release the extinguishing agent
4. Sweep from side to side at the base of the fire until the fire is out

If the fire has spread beyond a small fire or you have any doubt in your ability to fight the fire, evacuate the building immediately and wait for the fire department to arrive.
