The National Fire Protection Association reports nearly 17,000 home fires are started a year due to dryer fires. A leading cause of these fires is dryer vent buildup, making your vent a fire hazard to be aware of. Lint and debris buildup in the dryer vent creating a flammable situation.
To prevent a dryer fire, follow these precautions:
- Ensure that your dryer is properly installed and the correct outlets and plugs are used
- Clean the dryer lint filter before and after every load of laundry
- Clean lint out of the pipe every three months
- Ensure the outside vent is open when the dryer is on
